What is a Dental Implant?

A Tooth Replacement Built to Last a Lifetime

A dental implant is a small titanium post surgically placed into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root. Once it fuses with the bone a process called osseointegration a custom crown is attached on top, giving you a permanent, fully functional tooth that looks and feels completely natural.

What Our Implant Patients Are Saying

The Implant Journey

What to Expect Step by Step

Consultation & Evaluation

Dr. Bishay performs a thorough oral exam, reviews X-rays, and assesses your bone density and gum health to confirm you're a good candidate for implants. We walk you through all your options and answer every question.

Bone Grafting (if required)

If your jawbone has insufficient density, a bone graft may be placed to create a strong foundation for the implant. This heals over a few months before the next step. Not all patients require this.

Implant Post Placement

The titanium post is surgically placed into the jawbone under local anesthesia. This is a minor procedure and most patients return to normal activities the following day. A temporary tooth may be placed while you heal.

Osseointegration (Healing)

Over the next several months, the implant fuses with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration creating a permanent, unshakable anchor for your new tooth.

Crown Placement

Once healing is complete, your custom-made porcelain or zirconia crown is attached. Dr. Bishay carefully adjusts the fit and bite and you leave with a permanent, beautiful new tooth.

Dental Implant FAQs

Are dental implants painful?
The implant placement is performed under local anesthesia, so you should feel no pain during the procedure. Mild soreness and swelling for a few days afterward is normal and easily managed with over-the-counter pain relief. Most patients report that it’s far more comfortable than they expected.
The full process typically takes 3 to 6 months from implant placement to final crown. This allows time for osseointegration the bone fusing to the implant. If bone grafting is needed first, the total timeline may be 9–12 months. During this time you’ll have a temporary tooth so you’re never without a smile.
The titanium implant post is designed to last a lifetime. The crown on top typically lasts 15–25 years before it may need replacing due to normal wear. With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, many patients enjoy their implants for decades without any issues.
Coverage varies by plan. Some insurance plans cover a portion of the crown or preparatory procedures. Our team will verify your benefits before treatment and outline your out-of-pocket costs clearly. We also offer flexible payment plans to make implants affordable regardless of your coverage.

Dental implants have a success rate of approximately 95–98% making them one of the most predictable and reliable procedures in all of dentistry. Success depends on proper placement, good bone density, and healthy oral hygiene habits after placement.

Yes, in many cases. If your jawbone has insufficient density, a bone grafting procedure can rebuild the area before placing the implant. Dr. Bishay will evaluate your bone levels during your free consultation and let you know exactly what your options are.
